Google gets green light on Library Project

On 14 November 2013, Judge Denny Chin of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York found that Google’s “Library Project”, under which it has now scanned tens of millions of books (many of them under copyright) without permission from the rights holders, and made them available in “snippet form”, constituted a “fair use” of the materials, providing Google with a complete defence to the allegation of copyright infringement.

A lesson in sharing: Google’s new AdWords policy

Google has recently updated its AdWords trade mark policy. From 23 April 2013, Google will no longer prevent advertisers from selecting another company’s registered trade mark for use as a keyword in Australia (and China, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, New Zealand, South Korea, and Brazil). This change brings Google’s AdWords policy on trade marks in Australia into line with the rest of the world.
